Hugo de la Lune calls himself the “African Dracula,” a fitting moniker for an artist whose music moves through shadow, sensuality, and myth. The Ethiopian-American vocalist and songwriter creates a sound that blends alternative soul, jazz, and psychedelic R&B into something lush, nocturnal, and emotionally magnetic. As a Black and queer artist, Hugo’s work often explores the tension between the self and the persona, weaving diasporic memory, surreal imagery, and gothic aesthetics into contemporary soul music. His releases—including the three-part EP series Act I, Act II, and Act III—established a distinct sonic universe rooted in rich musicianship and mythic storytelling. He is currently preparing to release his debut full-length album, CODA, arriving Spring 2026. The record expands on the mythic world introduced in his earlier work while pushing his sound into richer and more expansive territory, continuing to establish Hugo de la Lune as a singular voice in contemporary soul.
